Chapter Thirty-Six

Wednesday: December 18, 2024

Bo let go of Elijah’s hand. “Go on,” he said quietly. Elijah ran over to his father, throwing his arms around his neck.

Jacob grunted, wrapping his arms around the boy. “Hey, buddy,” he whispered. Charlotte practically tackled her father, jumping onto his back. He almost lost his balance, quickly pressing a hand to the floor to keep himself in a squatting position. “I can’t thank you two enough for watching over them.”

“It’s been our pleasure, Jake,” Jensen said softly. He wrapped an arm around Bo’s shoulders, holding the blonde against his side. It had been nine days since Bo shot his own brother, and although he was gradually getting better as the days went by, he had been incredibly quiet all day long.

“You guys are going back to Cali today?” Jacob asked.

“This afternoon after the girls get out of school,” Jensen said with a nod.

“When will you come back?”

“After New Year’s. The girls will be here when school gets back from break, and, obviously, so will we,” Jensen said.

Jacob nodded. “Thank you. Again. I’ll pick up Katie when school lets out, so you don’t have to worry about her.”

“Sounds like a plan. And, again, you’re welcome. The only difficult one is Charlotte,” Jensen said.

Charlotte giggled as Jacob snorted. “Yeah, that’s the fucking understatement of the year.” He cleared his throat. “Well, maybe you guys can come over for supper after you get back to Clinstone. It won’t be Christmas, but… but it can be our own celebration of the new year, okay?”

“We’d like that,” Jensen said softly. He squeezed Bo’s shoulder, turning his head to kiss the top of the blonde’s head. “Wouldn’t we, Eli?” Bo nodded. “We’ll be heading out, then. We have a few more things to pack up before we head to L.A.. Call us if you need anything?”

“I will. Thank you.” Jacob released his hold on Elijah. “Baby girl? Can Daddy stand up?” Charlotte let go of Jacob, allowing him to rise to his feet. “Brother? How about a goodbye hug, huh?” Bo pulled away from Jensen and walked up to Jacob. He leaned into the sergeant before wrapping his arms around him. “I love you. If you need anything, you give me a call. I’ll talk you down from anything,” Jacob whispered.

“Thank you,” Bo whispered. Jacob nodded. “I love you, too. Take care of yourself. I’ll see you next year.”

Jacob smiled as Bo stepped away from him. “See you next year, Blondie.”

Bo dropped into his seat, leaning his head back against it as he closed his eyes. Hati lay at his feet, letting out a heavy sigh as she dropped her head to rest on her paws. Jensen sat down beside him, clearing his throat. “I’m sorry I’ve been… a downer all day,” Bo said.

“That’s not your fault, Eli,” Jensen said softly. “Kayla and Amber are sitting back by Frank and Jamal. They like listening to their stories,” he added.

“Good,” Bo said quietly. “And Acamas? She’s in her cage?”

“Yep.” Bo nodded. “Are you sure you wanna leave the girls with Jamal tonight? We can go out some other time if you’re not feeling up to it.”

Bo lifted his shoulders. “Can we just skip the reservations for supper? I don’t want to go out in public any more than I have to,” he said.

“Of course, baby. That’s fine,” Jensen said.

“Jamal said he’d watch the girls at his estate. So… they’ll basically be living in the lap of luxury until Saturday morning,” Bo said.

Jensen chuckled. “There is that.”

Bo opened his eyes, turning his head toward Jensen. “I just… I just want to spend the next few days alone with you and be normal for a little while. I want to forget about Bernard and whatever watery grave he ended up in. These next few days are just us. That’s it. That’s all I want.”

“Sounds good to me, babe.” Jensen wrapped an arm around his shoulders, leaning down to kiss him. “I love you, Eli.”

Bo smiled. “I love you, too, Jens.”

Bo pressed his hands to Jensen’s chest, gently pushing him back a few inches.

“What? You okay?”

“You taste like wine,” Bo said quietly.

“Oh, God. I’m so sorry. I forgot. Hold on.” Jensen practically leaped off the bed, heading for the bathroom. Bo sat down on the bed, folding his legs Indian style, resting his hands in his lap. Several minutes later, Jensen came back into the room and climbed onto the bed. “Now I taste like mint and whichever flavor of ChapStick I put on.”

Bo smiled faintly. “They’re scents, Jensen.”

“Nah. They’re flavors if you can taste ‘em.”

“Mm.” Bo leaned up on his knees to kiss Jensen, his hands on the taller man’s face. “Coconut. Solid choice.”

Jensen chuckled. “I thought so.” He wrapped his hands around the hem of Bo’s shirt, pulling it over his head. He tossed it onto the chair across the room.

“Nice shot.”

“I do my best.” Jensen kissed Bo, wrapping his hands around the backs of the blonde’s thighs. With a quick tug, he pulled Bo’s legs out from under him, knocking him onto his back.

Bo laughed as Jensen moved to straddle his hips. He wrapped his arms around Jensen’s neck. “I love you,” he whispered.

“I love you more, Eli.”

“Mm.” Threading his fingers through Jensen’s hair, Bo lifted his head enough to kiss the man. He wrapped his hands around the back of Jensen’s shirt, pulling it over his head as he sat up. Bo turned his head to the side, tossing the shirt to the chair against the wall. “If I feel like experiencing humanity tomorrow, I thought we’d go out for brunch. Then you can sleep in before we go out.” Bo slid his hands up Jensen’s chest. “They do couple massages here, too. I thought we could do that after brunch.”

Jensen smiled. “That sounds wonderful.” He leaned down and kissed Bo’s neck. “But, if you wake up tomorrow and decide that you aren’t ready to be around other people all day,” he said, sitting up as he unbuttoned Bo’s jeans, “then I’m entirely fine with staying in bed all day.”

“Really,” Jensen confirmed. “Babe, as long as I’m with you all day, I don’t care where we spend it.”

“How the hell did I luck out with someone like you?”

“Mm… call it Jamal’s twisted fate of the universe,” Jensen said softly. “But I lucked out with you, too. You’re amazing.” He cleared his throat. “Now, pardon my bluntness, but lift your hips so I can take your damn pants off.”

Bo snorted. “I love you.”

Jensen grinned. “Love you, too, Eli.” He tugged on Bo’s belt loops. “But I’m serious. Hips. Up.” Bo rolled his eyes, lifting his hips from the bed. Jensen dropped Bo’s jeans to the floor. Jensen leaned down and kissed the blonde. “I’m gonna make up for all the times one of the kids or Hati have stopped us from having sex.”

Bo chuckled. “Deal. But you have to take off your pants first, genius.”

Jensen rolled his eyes, quickly kicking off his jeans. “I love you, Eli,” he repeated.

One corner of Bo’s mouth lifted. “Prove it?” he questioned.

“Yes, sir,” Jensen whispered, leaning down to kiss him again.
