Chapter Forty-Two

Saturday: July 18, 2026
10:24 AM; LOS ANGELES, THE AUSTEN-TAYLOR HOUSEHOLD, FAMILY ROOM

Bo sat in one of the chairs in the living room, Castor cradled in one arm, a bottle in his free hand as he fed the baby. He has pushed his Bluetooth into his ear to talk to Jacob without the need to hold his phone. “Happy birthday, brother,” Bo greeted as soon as he heard Jacob answer the call.

Jacob chuckled. “Thanks, Blondie,” he said softly. “How’re the babies?”

“Pollux is asleep, but Cas needed to be fed.”

“How’s he doing?”

“Healthy and developing,” Bo said.

“Good. How are you?”

Bo smiled faintly. “Incredibly tired, but managing. This is the first time Pollux has slept past six without interruption since we brought him home. I mean… he woke up once at three, but the extra few hours there were nice.”

“God, do I remember those days.” Jacob snorted. “You coming back to Clinstone for August?”

“Yeah. Kayla and Amber are both going back to school in August. I still don’t want to force them into a school here. That just feels wrong to me.”

“Understandable.”

“How’s the house in Stokely treating you?”

“Good. Thanks for coming in to help move everything.”

“You betcha,” Bo said. “You spend the day with your family, okay? Make a cake together or something.”

“I’ll do my best, Blondie.”

“Good. I’ll see you next month. Love you.”

“Love you, too, brother.”
